Actually really humbling. I interviewed some one from elder nufers area and shes this 80 yr old lady who has been living in union libre. She doesnt want to be with the guy that she lives with and she was wanted to get baptized for a long time and has had a testimony for a long time. She found a room for rent in the hole in the wall super ghetto house that is half swamp. Theres no electricity and dirt floor and its super cold. But me and nufer moved her bed over there and it was super humbling to see this sacrafice she was making just so she could get baptized. Me and nufer talked about if we were willing to make that sacrafice just to get baptized and i remember the pioneros. They gave their lives for this! I read to the lady to try to give her a little of comfort Mat 19:29. She said that she new that. ! I know my savior lives and loves each one of us. He is our brother and understands us because he has felt everything the we feel! He is our only way back to the Lords presence! He loves you! Love you all!

Bruce

Monterrey, city of dreams for real its sick here!

So this last week has been super crazy just being in monterrey one of the most dangerous cities in the world! its funn cause when i came here it was the safest in mexico and now its one the worst its more dangerous then mexico city! but its exciting! gun fights people robbing peoples cars with guns right in front of you! you hear gun shots everyday! pretty sweet! so startting with last monday! we ate in the macro plaza down town and theres this main road we were about to cross it and the army and the federales came flyin down the road and blocked it off and like 40 soldados and federales got our in swat gear and i was like 30 feet away from them and the began to seach these SUV's and everyone nows down here that when the army gets into the drug wars bullets fly! so me and my comp and elder mercado and elder davies we were like oh freak ya balacera! i took a pic and the federale guy got mad at me and yelled at me but it was sick! So I'll give you the run down summed up. Day 1: I Flew from SLC to Dallas almost missed our other flight, flew to Monterrey on a plane full of Mexi's, it smell really interesting! Anyway that night in Monterrey we ate at Pres. Toris's house, then they shipped 19 of us to the mission house where there were already other missionaries, so that night there were 30 missionaries stuck in this really junky small HOT house, we all slept on top of our blankets and ur still to hot! Anyway ...-
DAY2: We went to mission head quarters and got lectured!!! all day by the AP's. Then that night they sent us on splits or added us to companionships in the area, so we met them, grabbed some clothes and off I went walking with my new temporary comps, there're taxis everywhere and in Monterrey they're alright priced, so we made it to their apt. first off, they didn't have a place for me to sleep....then this place is nasty. Dead cockroaches everywhere and not glass on the door or widows, just bars. We went contacting and then to their new Walmart, then back to the apt. were i slept on the ground.
DAY3: Got up studdiedish, cranked out 100 pull-ups on some water pipe, oh still no Mexican food insight! People just keep giving me nasty American crap! we went our contacting all morning, some old guy let us in we sang "Families can be together forever", it was cool! I bore my testimony for the first time in Mexico. At 1 I had to go to the immigration building to finish visa stuff with all the other new elders, One of them had an accident in his pants on the way over... I felt bad (good thing it wasn't me). Johnathan Nufer talked to some chick and was like I need to practice my Spanish and started teaching the 1st lesson, but then she got interested and so John and 2 other elders taught her, it was way tight she was way interested! then that afternoon we got all our stuff went to the bus station to ship off to Mancolva 4 hours away, we got our stuff on the bus then the AP's left but didn't give us our stinking tickets! we got our stuff off and couldn't call them....crap! So none of the numbers we had were working and all these Elders were freaking out while I was laughing, I was like lets just pray we're stinking missionaries! guess what happened some dude just lets us use his cell phone! so we got the AP's to come back4 hours later so we contacted in the station gave out a BOM and pamphlets, was tight, so that night we went back to the small house and still didn't have and Mexican food..GRRRR. we slept in different beds and it was really hot again at night like 95 degrees, next morning ...
Day4: 4:45 am got up showed then off to the bus station 'cause the bus left at 6am we got on, all is well 12 hours later I'm alone on a bus in freaking Mexico and the Military stops the bus and they all had M16's and searched our luggage! They found a bag of chalk in my suitcase and thought it was drugs and I tried to tell them it wasn't and we started yelling till they pointed their guns at me then I stopped.....just kidding had ya going. no they found nothing I finally made it to Acuña where I'm now. It's on the border of Texas. I thought it'd be a desert but its not, it's like pretty green, like Utah minus the Mtns plus we got palm trees.

Rest of the week: My comp picked me up, his name is Elder Dewsup he's way chill! He's from Sacramento(thankfully American) all you ladies would murder to marry this kid, he's a ladies man for sure and he knows it he always says "duelen mi cara ser tan guapo" I think I spelled it right but yeah lets just say all our investigators and recent baptisms are all young girls like 17 or 18ish or young mothers....:D pretty funny, my 2nd night here a huge storm came threw, and I mean really big! the Tornado Alarm went off in the city but no tornado ever came, it would have been sweet! just tons of hail rain and lightning!
There are 4 missionaries in Acuña! two wards, the members are super nice and feed us sometimes, if we can find their house 'cause our area is half a city! its huge! we ride bikes all day from one end of the city to the other a number of times a day from little dirt bike trails to in and out of traffic in the city racing buses and stuff, OH! in Monterrey don't mess with the traffic or buses they will hit you and just keep on driving! Anyway Acuña is smaller. All the houses are these little tiny cement houses the size of a garage maybe they are clean and very simple and colorful, I love it I would totally live in one, these people are lucky to have simple lives! our house is not in our area and is definitely nicer then most of the houses around. It's pretty big we have a "yard" a small palm tree our house is organge and pink and has white and black bars, it really brings out the gray spots and holes in the walls. its nice though, very spacious. My comp and I got the idea that sleeping on the roof would be fun so we have stairs that lead up to our flat cement roof it has a small little tower up there were we yell repentance, jk, and a wannabe bbq/bar and then its big and flat so the last few nights we've been sleeping up there its very chill atmosphere here theres taco stands and convenient stores like every block in people's houses every night we walk down to the taco house thingy and get drinks or down the street to the gas station, it's warm and perfect here! not deserty at all, I haven't seen a cactus in this city yet. yesterday we set up my slack-line in the back yard and slack-lined all evening it was super chill, we ate cheezitz and sat around in our hammac, I climbed on the edge of the roof as a horizontal foor problem that's like 30 feet long. then off to bed on top of our house watching stars ans bats...ha ha and loud Mexican music playing all day around us, yeah it's like a vacation, but we're also working a lot all day! Teaching a lot of lessons and contacting neighborhoods.
Its so funny when I contact, I tell them this tiny little thing about missionaries and Jesus and prophets and how God can bless their family, it's a really crappy pitch, then the people look at me like I just kicked them in the shin and like, are you serious is written all over their faces, but then I say, you wanna listen to our message and so far all of them have been like...uh ok. so we' get in.

anyway life is good the work is moving and I'm getting my first baptism on Wednesday! love you all miss you.
muwa
/bruce

hormones

Hey everyone so let me give you a run down of the MTC. Then Usually its more class for lets say 4 1/2 hour block....Scary to most, but I like it I can study what ever i want(as far as spainish or gospel) or go to the RC and save some souls over the phone! Then lunch(1pm) Here you may run across something healthy, lets go back and see MAY RUN ACROSS (FACT!) It's a small chance for sure cause this places makes Carl's jr look healthy. I'm talkin cheese burgers, fries, wings, you name it. If your a 45 yr old man and ur doct says you can't eat it cause you'll have a heart attack, its here! Theres a wrap line thankfully and this is easily the healthiest line to eat from, but yet when you see the chicken is shipped in an pulled strait from a frozen card board box, its not too appatizing at all, plus after 2 weeks of wraps everyday your body can't stand it and the toxic gasses in ur dorm room and class room are definitly high.

Heres a story, One day my whole district was eating wraps and come night class our room could kill a cow from the smell. This night one of the branch councelers was coming to talk to us and when his wife came threw the door she literally almost past out! She started coughing and cholking and had to go back out! I was luaghing so hard! It was the funniest this ever!

Anyway, back to the schedual after lunch there may be some gym time. Gym time is only 50 mins long! THAT'S IT! theres a mini track up on the 3rd floor and no free weights just 3 ghetto old machine weights that are horrible, and then comes the records, they have a very skwed view on pull ups, yes they do it the homo way the none climber way and like im gunna listen to some advice from some guy who weighs 300 lbs and obviously like MTC cafetiria food. Well, so here come class, which is Spainish mixed with doctrine plus aa lot of stress. Hopefully you get a good teacher who inspires you!

6pm dinner! Im never hungry at thi8s time and this is where I may gain some calories on the side of my body, or I like to call it "potential energy" I have managed to be under weight then what I came in at, but i think its due to muscle loss :( Oh well, so dinner maybe ahve a slight higher chance of healthy foods, maybe, but my comp and I lately have been sticking to a small bowl of Life cereal...with some cinamin toast crunch on top.. :D yeah then a another 3 hour block of class, which is hard to focus and ur off to ur room for some door fram pull ups, one arm pull ups on the bar and journal writing and pray that you can do it all over again!

Theres so much more I wanna write but I will next week, I already have a good story for you!

PS Thanks for all the cookies and love you put into them, but here in the MTC cafeteria we have an unlimited amount of cookies of all kinds so maybe sebd some Diet Coke w/ Lime or cool ties for the underground tie trading market, or PROBARS....or.... lets see...pics of old times, CLIMBING MAGS for my p-day pleasures! that's about it!

I love you all!

Wish me luck they give horrible hair cuts here and mines today 8|

-Cheers Bruce

I am in the MTC

Hey friends!
well its been a journey forsure! So quickie update! I just saw Tropic Thunder and yes it was funny! My ears are bleeding, but it still was funny. Sam leaves on Wednesday for a lifetime, but it's for the better. It seems though that the stress is definitely getting to him, he's lost his drive to climb which blows for him and me. I took a few weeks off to let my shoulder heal and now that I'm able to climb again I got no one to climb with, no one to get psyched and super motivated with. He doesn't even want to go up and climb easy stuff, I know trying hard stuff a lot in climbing can take it's tool, but I thrive on getting shut down I love the challenge and I need a good partner to climb with because climbing is SO VERY MENTAL! It plays with your head and you find out what you're really made of! So I've been getting fat and gaining weight from not climbing and its so very depressing, but I'm making a comeback, danced my heart out last night and lost 6 lbs! Woot woot! Tomorrow would be a good day to work on my projects because temps are down I'm almost back down to climbing weight, but I don't want to be negitive, but It's gunna be another waste of a climb day! So I will do my best to be positive from now on. I'm proud of my family and I love them a ton!!! Heres some recent pics of Sam from the 2 days I convinced him to at least come boulder.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_hr-q87ycy8Y/SKZ1tk0Qs4I/AAAAAAAAAAw/i0m1sZ41Ytk/s200/sam19+light.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5235001042702218114" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_hr-q87ycy8Y/SKZ1-GLBgqI/AAAAAAAAAA4/Zm4ELGSk7F0/s200/saam2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5235001326533968546" />

Finally! (wining)

So finally I'm posting again! I believe my wonderful older sister is my only reader, well she is an avid blogger and everyone should pay her lots of money!!! jk. Anyway, It's the end of July already! Uhg! Time is flying and of course theres never enough time to do the things you want. My time isn't even torn that much and I don't get to dedicate the kind of time I need to to my passions, you guess what they were I'm sure if you've ever talked to me...climbing, photography, and my Family. It drives me nuts because to be a good climber its not just a fun hobby you have to make it a lifestyle to be above average and even then it's pretty freakin hard! I want to be a good climber I want to be a good photographer, but never seem to have time for either.(if you're in my family you would laugh at that statement) Climbing requires full commitment and dedication for eating right training and mental preparation. over the last month or so I've been doing things I never thought I'd do, but still I'm never really pumped or that sore and I know I can improve 10 times faster then I am if I put more into that. For photography it seems these days everyone is a photographer and that's the beauty of that art form, its accessable for anyone to express themselves. To be a good photographer it takes more then just ur really expensive DSLR camera which all the old people can afford and think that they are suddenly gifted.
"Oh that was almost a good picture hun."
"I just bought the new $500 photoshop I'll make professional 'n stuff"
Put a bullet threw my brain! or as towelly's science experimented friends that are all retarded would say. "Kill me...Kill me!" -South Park.
Old people, you know I'm just jealous. Its good for you to express yourself, I still don't like a lot of you. There are many amazing photographers that I know that don't have $5000 cameras and the "Real" photoshop who take better pics then anyone I know. You don't need all that fancy crap...kinda...you just need to understand your camera understand lighting and know! Know that he who controls the light really wins! Take good pics before photoshop and you will barely need photoshop and then we can all over throw these rich old people that steal our buisness because of fancy things!

I apologize if I offend anyone, I got up really early today and haven't climbed in 5!!!!! DAYS!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!! I'M LOSING MY MIND! I'll have pics up soon. On random things, I'm surprised I even get ok shots just cause I never set up the shoot.....oh well Suck it oldies! JK.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://georgebruce.blogspot.com/2008/07/finally-wining.html' title='Finally! I am sinking down another social anchor, connecting my self online to other online journalists. Connecting myself to others because Myspace, Facebook, and regular 'ol Hotmail isn't enough for me. Oh I also have a photography website so there you all go! I am anchored. Anchored down to China town. I think its kind of funny that humans want to protect them selves and keep a private life and then something in them goes nuts and you can try to hold it in, but no, you failed and the inner you needs a voice! So here I am doing this exact thing, starting another online something about me! I promise I'm not egotistical this could just be another way to let something out because currently I am an artist with out a brush! I have no camera and lens to see the world threw and it's giving me ticks and twitches so possibly this might help, but thank God for climbing! Climbing is my 4th dimension my expression upon the rock. It's one of life's most simple, beautiful, activities/lifestyles that's out there. I can carry on without a big, black, shiny, sexy SLR camera as long as I'm climbing a few hours everyday, but then again, when I'm at the crag the aesthetics and energy is so amazing I wish I had my camera. I guess I'll keep on breathing for a few more weeks. I should have a camera by then.

Link to the ghetto website GeorgeBrucePhoto.com
